theLab

Greetings:

We are polyopticsLABs, a unique collection of scientists, engineers, technicians, designers, and artists.  We are creators and innovators, and together we produce the most advanced biologically inspired robotics and systems in the world.

By harnessing the capabilities of neuroscience and fusing them with cutting edge electronics and the social sciences, polyopticsLABs is bringing a new level of efficiency and situational awareness to off world exploration rovers, with deductive reasoning, true to life emotions, and tools to execute their missions.

Nature has evolved truly remarkable capabilities that, when properly understood, create significant new exploration advantages.

polyopticsLABs focuses on emulating and implementing the unique locomotion and chemical, visual, and aural sensing capabilities of animals.

Welcome to the LAB.

Mission:

Biologically Inspired Robotics and Systems:

polyopticsLABs' core mission is to create revolutionary exploration technology by sponsoring revolutionary, high-payoff research bridging the gap between fundamental discoveries and their practical use.

Over the years, polyopticsLABs has worked to enhance our exploration techniques by funding research and technology development that not only have improved our space program and extended our reach into the galaxy, but have changed the way we live here on Earth.

Since the very beginning, polyopticsLABs has been the place for people with innovative ideas that lead to groundbreaking discoveries.

Principles:

The LAB has a rich 50-year history of successes ranging from the Mars missions to ocean mapping, biological memory storage, and animal TSP (Thought to Speech Program), but these advances, now proven and accepted, were once the source of discomfort and unease.  Such is the nature of work performed at the LAB.

Many of the now omnipresent technologies pioneered at polyopticsLABs were once considered impossibilities.  And this progression — first unacheivable, then unimaginable, eventually unavoidable — characterizes many of the LAB’s most important advances.

We take on new, seemingly impossible challenges each year.   In so doing, there is often a tension between novel concepts and an underdeveloped ethical, legal, and societal framework for addressing the full implications of such research.
